Shopify
What the App Is
The ProxyAI Shopify app puts a chatbot on your storefront and gives you the whole of ProxyAI inside Shopify admin: bot setup, channels, add-ons, hand-off inbox, tickets, usage and rates. Charges go on your Shopify invoice, there is no separate ProxyAI account to create, no card to enter, and no subscription.
The storefront widget is the same widget ProxyAI serves everywhere else. Shopify is where you buy and configure it, not a different product.
Installing gives you a free chatbot, already set up with your store's details and allowed to run on both your myshopify.com address and your own domain. Installing does not add any credit; credit comes with the plan you choose in setup. If you ever uninstall and install again you come back to the same account, your bot, plan and credits are still there.
Install It
Get it from the App Store listing: ProxyAI on the Shopify App Store. Approve the permissions on the install screen and the app opens in your Shopify admin.
First-Run Setup
The app opens a three-step guide the first time.
1. Add to your storefront. The chat button is a Shopify theme app embed, so nothing appears on your store until you switch it on. Choose Open theme editor, turn on ProxyAI Chat under App embeds, and save.
2. Choose add-ons. Pick one of two plans, and either one unlocks every add-on for Shopify: Bot Knowledge, Abuse Guard, Human Handoff, Helpdesk Connect, MCP + Cart Actions and Agent Tasks.
- Free unlocks all of them with a small Powered by ProxyAI line under your chat box, plus $1 of trial credit, once per account.
- Deal is $69, one time, charged to your Shopify invoice after you approve it on Shopify's billing screen. It unlocks the same add-ons with no badge, gives you $69 of AI credits, and adds priority support and a commercial license.
Neither is a subscription and nothing renews. All sales are final once credits start being used. Add-ons ProxyAI launches later are unlocked on your next visit, on whichever plan you chose.
3. Try it out. The chat in the corner of the setup page is the real widget. Open it and ask what a customer would.
You can reopen the guide later: account menu (bottom of the sidebar) → Settings → Setup guide → Reset onboarding. It changes nothing about your bot, plan or settings. Choosing a locked entry in the sidebar, such as an add-on your plan has not unlocked yet, also reopens the guide on its plan step.
The Dashboard
The app has the same sidebar as the web dashboard, with your bot's name at the top:
- Dashboard is where every visit lands: an Account card with your shop domain, a Credits card with your balance and Top up, a Theme editor link, and a 14-day spend chart with a breakdown of what the spend went on.
- Help Center opens this site.
- Configurations: Bot Identity, Bot Knowledge, Abuse Guard and Channels, plus Store actions once you have MCP + Cart Actions, Human Handoff or Helpdesk Connect.
- Add-ons: Hand-off (Inbox, Settings), Helpdesk (Ticket Inbox, Agent Mode, Settings) and Agent Tasks (Overview, Agents, Library, Connectors, Run Log, Settings). Ticket Inbox and Agent Mode appear only when Helpdesk Connect is using the built-in desk; with Gorgias or Zendesk connected you work those tickets in that desk. See Working the Tickets Board.
- Account menu (bottom of the sidebar): Usage & costs, everything your bot has spent, item by item; Model rates, your own rates plus a calculator for estimating a month (shown here rather than as a link out, because store pricing differs from the public price list); ProxyAI Support, to raise something with us; and Settings.
Settings holds usage alerts, product updates and offers, and the setup guide. With Human Handoff you can set the agent avatar and name your customers see after a transfer from the Dashboard.
Two things called support, so it is worth separating: the Ticket Inbox is your customers' support queue, ProxyAI Support is where you raise something with us.
Channels Beyond the Storefront
Nothing about the Shopify app limits the bot to your storefront. Open Configurations → Channels and connect WhatsApp, Telegram, LINE, Messenger, Instagram or Discord exactly as on the web dashboard, the same cards, the same dialogs. The Web channel is already configured for your storefront, so leave its domain list alone unless you embed the bot elsewhere too.
Credits and Billing
- The Deal and top-ups are one-time charges, approved on Shopify's own billing screen. Nothing renews by itself.
- Credits are what the bot spends as it answers, checks your store and searches your documents. A typical reply costs a fraction of a cent; the Model rates tab works it out properly.
- Top up from Top up on the Dashboard's Credits card, from $10 to $1,000 per top-up.
- Settings → Email me usage alerts warns you before the balance runs out. A bot with no credit stops replying, so leave this on.
- The price you paid is fixed at the moment of purchase, a later price change never affects it.
- Buying the Deal after starting on Free removes the Powered by ProxyAI line and adds the credits. Buying it a second time grants nothing, top up instead.
The Ticket Form Block
With Helpdesk Connect on the built-in desk, you also get a ProxyAI Tickets block. Add it to any page from the theme editor to give signed-in customers a ticket form. Logged-out visitors are simply asked to log in.
Test It
- Open your storefront and confirm the chat button appears. If it does not, ProxyAI Chat is still switched off in the theme editor, or the change was not saved.
- Ask a question your bot should know from its identity and documents.
- With MCP + Cart Actions, ask about a real product and its price, then add it to the cart and check your cart drawer.
- With Human Handoff, ask for a person and confirm the conversation lands in Add-ons → Hand-off → Inbox.
- Open Usage & costs in the account menu, every one of those messages should be listed.
If the app itself will not load, reload the page in Shopify admin, a tab left open for a long time can go stale.
